Problem
In the breathtaking landscapes of Kenya’s Rift Valley, marginalized families, often grappling with extreme poverty, face daunting challenges in breaking free from the cycle of deprivation. Women, as the bedrock of these families, bear the weight of their economic struggles and are often victims of Gender Discrimination and Gender Inequality. Many families lack the necessary capital to invest in ventures that could uplift them from poverty and create Sustainable Livelihoods, leading to Income Inequality.
Safina Empowerment recognizes this urgent need for transformative solutions and the importance of Gender Mainstreaming and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5). We have witnessed the plight of very poor families in the region, whose potential remains untapped due to the lack of resources and Equal Opportunities for Women.
Solution
At Safina Empowerment, we are on a mission to uplift these marginalized families, providing them with the vital lifeline they need to overcome poverty and emerge as drivers of change. Through targeted Direct Cash Transfers, we infuse capital into the hands of these families, offering not just income but also the opportunity to invest in ventures that can steer them towards Economic Prosperity. These cash transfers serve as catalysts, empowering families to establish Microenterprises, engage in Income-Generating Activities, and access Education and Training, including Women’s Empowerment Seminars and Mentorship Programs.
One of our transformative initiatives is the implementation of Table Banking Systems, supported through these Direct Cash Transfers, breaking Gender Stereotypes and promoting Women in STEM fields. Women are equipped with Financial Knowledge and Insight, fostering a culture of saving and investment within their communities, further promoting Gender Sensitivity and Gender Equity. This creates a supportive network where women can pool resources, access capital, and drive Local Economic Growth, promoting Social Equality and Gender Balance.
Moreover, Safina Empowerment extends its impact beyond Direct Cash Transfers. By providing smartphones to families through their mothers, we bridge the Digital Divide, ensuring that children have access to the technology they need for Education and Growth, including Menstrual Health Education. Our vision encompasses the holistic empowerment of families, equipping them with tools and opportunities to thrive in an ever-changing world, and promoting Gender Empowerment and Women’s Economic Independence.
